I’ve been changing up my music playlist latey, gravitating towards Jazz and Dubstep/Electronica. I am becoming a huge fan of groups like Portico Quartet, and the classic musicians like Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker and Dave Brubeck. It might have something to do with the time of the year, or maybe the gloomy weather, or it may be the holidays spirit taking full effect, not really sure, but without a doubt, for the moment it’s my go to ambient background music while working.
Before the new found appreciation of music like Jazz, Dub Step, and Electronica (thanks to your Uncle Mark for keeping me abreast on new music) I was strictly hip-hop. I grew up on it and it’s the only music that got airplay in the car, well that and R&B slow jams…
Over the years I’ve watched hip hop music change and evolve and I became less and less captivated with the new generation of talent. I find myself only appreciating a small number of artist these days. This clip brought me back to the roots of why I loved Hip Hop in the first place - Freestyle lyricism. I wanted to share this with you to remind you that before you think your old man didn’t have a clue when it came to “cool” music… I want you to know that my roots run deep. Word is bond.
